Altar Hangings

Altar Hangings

// Ancestors altars// Altars dedicated to one or more deities // Self-motivational altars//

These are of a more personal nature so are done by commission only.

I try to keep these under 12″ x 12″ so they fit easily within the space of a home altar though larger pieces are possible (as seen below).

Email me to design one to fit your needs.

I work in several fiber mediums with my wall pieces: fabrics and threads, recycled silks of various types, and hand felted wool. Some pieces have frames (natural and manmade) while others hang from a single rod (soft framed).  These are not 2D pieces, they have depth and texture. Soft-backed pieces will be finished with fabric when needed to cover stitching. You can check out the close-up detail in my gallery.

WH- 121 Tumbled I.

Various silks including Kibisu and recycled sari silk, knotted and dyed insitu with chemical dyes. A fabric stiffener was added afterwards. Tumbled glass (man-made beach glass) is used with the Kibisu silk.

25″ x 6″    $300.00

I like the roughness of the Kibisu with the roughness of the tumbled glass. Silk is often thought of as soft and smooth but there are many types of silk, Kibisu being one of them, that are not soft and smooth. Tumbled glass is also seen, I think, as smooth but it is only coarsely smoothed.
